personal experience with my 5802X suggests it is best & probably safer to cut off the solder tab from the old batteries near the terminal (use sharp scissors) and solder join to the tabs from the battery pack.

make sure the polarity of the terminals are matched (+ to + and - to -) this may require reversing the direction of solder tabs
